With citrus season fast approaching, we’ve been loving a lot of zesty flavors lately. Lemons, oranges or grapefruits are the perfect way to brighten up a dish. Since we are in the camp that great, nourishing food doesn’t have to be complicated, we’ve created two fun and simple recipes for you to try. Our cinnamon maple crisps pair especially well with oranges, so we’re sharing our blood orange and yogurt recipe two ways: A blood orange bowl recipe, and caramelized blood orange recipe- topped with our crunchy cinnamon maple crisps! If you’re looking to brighten up your breakfast or midday snack, these two recipes are absolutely delicious.
(Note: If you only have navel oranges on hand, those will work too!)
Caramelized Blood Orange
Serves 2
2 blood oranges
1 ½ tablespoons brown sugar
½ cup Greek yogurt
3-5 crushed Cinnamon Maple Crisps
Blood Orange Yogurt Bowl
Serves 1
½ cup Greek yogurt
1 blood orange, peeled and sliced
Preheat the oven to broil, wash the oranges while your oven warms up.
Cut the oranges in half and place cut-side up in an oven safe baking dish. Coat the top of the oranges with brown sugar.
Broil until caramelized and bubbly, watch them closely! About 2 minutes.
Crush up the crisps either by hand or in a food processor. Plate the oranges with a dollop of Greek yogurt with the Cinnamon Maple Crisps crumbled over top. Enjoy!
Wash oranges and peel using a knife. Start by cutting around the center moving the orange clockwise, cutting until there's little to no white parts. Then cut the tops off. Here's a more in depth video to cut an orange. Kitchen Secrets - Peeling an Orange.
Crush up crisps either using a food processor, crumbling in hands, or a knife works.
Then construct your yogurt bowl, on the bottom I add half of my crisps then yogurt and oranges on top with more crisps. Enjoy!
